Canadian Broadcaster, Ian Greenberg, sadly passed away on January 10, 2022. Greenberg was one of four brothers who founded Astral Media Inc. in 1961 in Montreal, QC which grew from a chain of photography stores into a leader in broadcasting and media.
Acclaimed as a business visionary, Greenberg served as President and CEO of Astral from 1995 until 2013 when the company was acquired by BCE. He then became Director of the company’s Board.
Astral Media evolved into a media and communications entity which acquired radio stations and pay-television channels. Under Ian’s leadership, the organization grew to become the country’s largest private radio broadcaster.
Greenberg was inducted into the CAB Hall of Fame in 2008 for his remarkable contribution and impact on the sector. He was also awarded the Eleanor Roosevelt Humanities Award in 1993, and inducted into the Canadian Broadcast Industry Hall of Fame in 2014.
